(This article was written on March 14th during sports broadcasting club with Mr. O’Sullivan, Noah Koch, and Evan Ojeda)

Mr. O’Sullivan:  Hi guys, today we are going to discuss a fun topic in sports: what do you consider to be the best sports month and why?  There is always something going on in pro and collegiate sports, but what time of year or month excites you the most?

Noah Koch: I like April because that is when the NBA playoffs start. By the start of April, there are about 18 regular season games left. The games are getting better.  It’s exciting to see who will make the playoffs.  I like to go to some games in Brooklyn, Philadelphia, and New York.  My dad is a Mets fan so I might go with him.  The baseball season starts in April. I do follow some golf and that is busy in April.

Mr. O’Sullivan:  I agree, April is a very good month, as the weather is getting warmer.  I’m a big MLB fan so when the Mets start up I get really into the games.  Also, golf is on, NASCAR is getting pumped up, and now we have spring professional football.  Another great part of April is the NFL Draft which is almost as much fun as opening day for the NFL in September.  So, Noah, what other month do you like and why?

Noah Koch:  I like March for March Madness.  Although it may not be as good this year because Cooper Flagg from Duke hurt his ankle. NFL free agency is fun to follow.  The Patriots got a lot of new players such as;  Milton Williams from the Eagles, Carlton Davis III, and Landry Harold. I’m a big Patriots fan. What about you Evan?

Evan Ojeda:  I like September and October because the NFL starts up; by October you see who is for real, and you have playoff baseball.

Noah Koch:  I also like July because that is when NBA free agency really gets going.  The date for the start is June 30th but mostly you see lots of movement in July.

Evan Ojeda:  I also like June because of the NBA finals and the tail end of baseball’s first half.

Noah Koch:  I also like June for the NBA Finals

Mr. O’Sullivan:  So guys, if we had to vote for just one month, which would it be? (We did a secret ballot to see how the vote would come out)

The Vote Results:

1 for September

1 for June

1 for October

What do the rest of you think?

*We asked many of our staff members here: “What is your favorite sports month and why” and we got some great responses

Mr. Olausen:

I think the end of March into April is my favorite time of year for sports.  We have March Madness, the start of the MLB season, the fight for the playoff race in the NHL, and the Masters– all in the next couple of weeks.  A close second would probably be October with playoff baseball, the beginning of the NBA, NHL, NFL seasons, and college football conference play.  I believe the Rider Cup also falls in October.

Mr. Michael Brew:

March has the  NCAA BASKETBALL tourney and you still have hockey and the NBA. There is NFL free agency, MLB spring training, and golf

Mr. Connor Brew:

Personally, I'd go with January. You have the NFL playoffs, CFB bowl games/playoffs, and NBA, NHL, and CBB seasons ongoing. You could also make an argument for October with MLB Playoffs+World Series, NBA and NHL seasons starting, and NFL and CFB seasons in full swing

Mrs. Chevalier:

I personally like early Spring for the start of baseball and March Madness basketball.  My second favorite is the Fall for NFL

Mr. Hersch:

I consider April the best sports month. You have the NHL and NBA playoffs kicking off. MLB season is underway. The NFL draft is happening. I feel like that is the only month where there is something for everyone.  October could be similar but I feel like the MLB opening day is better just because it brings the start of spring/summer.

Mr. Turner:

I think October. You have football going strong and baseball coming to the World Series!  You also have winter-sports training camp.

Mr. Heyer:

It may be biased but...

UFC/MMA: all year round

Wrestling: Nov.-Feb

MMA and Wrestling require more grit and determination than any other sport as athletes who compete in both are usually underpaid for the potential risks they put themselves in.
